Applications Due: February 10, 2023. The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The program provides direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations, and State Fire Training Academies (SFTA). The funds provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

In awarding grants, the Administrator of FEMA is required to consider the following:

• The findings and recommendations of the Technical Evaluation Panel (TEP).
• The degree to which an award will reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage by reducing the risks associated with fire related and other hazards.
• The extent of an applicant’s need for an AFG grant and the need to protect the United States as a whole.
• The number of calls requesting or requiring a firefighting or emergency medical response received by an applicant.

Applications Due: February 16, 2023. Na’ah Illahee Fund (NIF) provides resources for Native Communities across the Pacific Northwest who are located in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. As Native people, Na’ah Illahee sees the land as a living entity and tailors all of our community work and grantmaking to support this concept. We work in relationship with Mother Earth to strengthen her living systems in acts of support, reciprocity and respect. NIF places a high value on sharing old teachings of growing and harvesting our own foods and medicines. We encourage sharing of these teachings in new ways. NIF is looking to provide grants to community based food program efforts led by Native people. NIF also encourages the teachings and sustaining of hunting and fishing practices and those being passed on to the younger generations. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on Native Communities and has shed light on the structural inequities in access to basic needs such as food. As we move forward from COVID to post-pandemic, we strive to advance a “just recovery” by helping tribal communities, to not only meet the healthy food needs of the people, but to support their right to choose their own foods into the future. NIF seeks to preserve our gather, hunter, grower way of life by funding organizations who help preserve these cultural practices.

Deadline: February 24, 2023. The mission of the Fisheries Resource Monitoring Program (Monitoring Program) is to identify and provide information needed to sustain subsistence fisheries on Federal public lands for rural Alaskans through a multidisciplinary, collaborative program. The main focus of the Monitoring Program will continue to be projects whose purpose is the collection, dissemination, and application of information used in the management of Federal subsistence fisheries in Alaska. However, it is also the intent of the Monitoring Program to support partnerships and provide opportunities for capacity building of rural organizations, communities, and individuals.

Letter of Interest Deadline: February 28, 2023. The Resilience Collaborative seeks to fund justice-focused, environmental and climate projects that advance community-centered resilience priorities. The Collaborative is particularly interested in supporting frontline communities and tribes or nonprofits and community organizations that serve frontline communities and tribes. Project topics can include capacity building, developing a community-centered resilience plan, developing Indigenous climate knowledge, and more. Awardees must be based in Washington, Idaho or Oregon. Funding amount (provided by NOAA and University of Washington EarthLab) varies based on level or project ranging from $5,000 up to $50,000 for one year. Projects of varying levels will be funded as follows: Level 1: $5,000 to $10,000; Level 2: $15,000 to $30,000; Level 3: $35,000 to $50,000. Applications Due: March 6, 2023.  Congress established the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF) to reverse the decline of West Coast salmon. This competitive grants program provides funding to States and Tribes to protect, conserve, and restore these populations. Read more about this funding opportunity here.

Deadline: March 23, 2023. The Community Wood Grant Program, launched in 2020, provides funding for grants to install thermally led community wood energy systems or to build innovative wood product manufacturing facilities. The Forest Service expects renewable wood energy systems installed under this program to use the most stringent control technologies. The program places extra emphasis on assisting sawmills in economically challenged areas to retool or add advanced technology. Read the funding announcement here.

Applications Due: March 31, 2023. Under Section 40101(d) Formula Grant Program of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), the Department of Energy will provide grants to States (including U.S. Territories) and Indian Tribes to improve the resilience of their electric grids. States and Indian Tribes may further allocate funds to “eligible entities”, as defined by Section 40101(d). These grants offer a unique opportunity to advance the capabilities of States and Indian Tribes, and their communities, to address not only current, but future resilience needs.

Deadline: March 31, 2023.. The purposed of the Native American Language Preservation and Maintenance- Esther Martinez Immersion (EMI) program is to provide financial assistance to community driven projects designed to preserve Native American languages through Native American language nests, Native American language survival schools, and Native language restoration programs. ANA is interested in supporting locally determined projects designed to reduce or eliminate community problems and achieve community goals. Funded EMI projects reflect specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound outcomes and include specific strategies for achieving intended performance. All EMI grants must have a start date of 8/1.

Deadline: March 31, 2023. The purpose of the Social and Economic Development Strategies (SEDS) program is to promote economic and social self-sufficiency for American Indians, Alaska Natives, native Hawaiians, and Native American Pacific Islanders from American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The SEDS program supports the principal that social and economic development are inter-related and essential for the development of thriving Native communities. The Administration for Native Americans (ANA) is interested in support community-driven projects designed to grow local economies, increase the capacity of tribal governments, strengthen families, preserve Native cultures, and increase self-sufficiency and community well-being. Funded SEDS projects will reflect specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timebound outcomes and include specific strategies for reducing or eliminating community problems and achieving long-range community goals.

Applications Due: April 4, 2023. SWIFR Grants for Tribes and Intertribal Consortia will provide funds for tribes and intertribal consortia to develop or update plans focused on encouraging environmentally sound post-consumer materials management; establish, increase, or expand materials management infrastructure, utilize funds for equipment and construction related costs as part of their implementation plans, and identify, establish, or improve end-markets for the use of recycled materials.  Materials and waste streams within scope of this funding opportunity include: municipal solid waste, including plastics, organics, paper, metal, glass, etc. and construction and demolition debris. In addition, materials and waste streams considered include the management pathways of source reduction, reuse, sending materials to material recovery facilities, composting, industrial uses (e.g., rendering, anaerobic digestion), and feeding animals. Deadline: April 10, 2023. The Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (CPS) Cooperative Agreement Program provides financial assistance to eligible organizations working on or planning to work on projects to address local environmental and/or public health issues in their communities, using EPA's "Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Model." The CPS Program assists recipients in building collaborative partnerships to help them understand and address environmental and public health concerns in their communities. Applications submitted in response to this funding opportunity must address one of the following five broad categories:  

• community-led air and other pollution monitoring, prevention, and remediation, and investments in low- and zero-emission and resilient technologies and related infrastructure and workforce development that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants; 
• mitigating climate and health risks from urban heat islands, extreme heat, wood heater emissions, and wildfire events; 
• climate resiliency and adaptation;  
• reducing indoor toxics and indoor air pollution; or  
• facilitating engagement of marginalized communities in Local, State and Federal public processes, such as advisory groups, workshops, and rulemakings 

Applications Due: April 14, 2023. The NASA Earth Science Division is calling for proposals that will improve or develop decision-making activities to combat the spread of invasive species, advance the use of ecosystem service assessment for decision making, and inform management, protection, and establishment of protected areas. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed, the proposing organization, and/or program requirements. The cost sharing requirement is waived for tribes and organizations working with tribes. This program requests optional Notices of Intent, which are due via NSPIRES by March 14, 2023. A virtual meeting for potential proposers will occur January 13, 2023, from 11 am -1 pm Pacific. Connection information will be posted under other documents on the NSPIRES page for this program element no later than December 13, 2022.

Second Round of Applications Due: May 31, 2023. On August 4, 2020 the Great American Outdoors Act was signed into law. The bill provides $900 million in permanent and dedicated annual funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and invests up to $9.5 billion to address priority repairs in our national parks and other public lands. The Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) Program, created in 2014, is an urban park grants program funded through the Land & Water Conservation Fund. The ORLP offers nationally competitive grants to support the creation or significant renovation of state or locally-owned parks and other outdoor recreation spaces located in urban areas. Funded projects help the public access or re-connect with the outdoors, and specifically target economically disadvantaged neighborhoods that lack adequate parks and recreational opportunities. The sixth application round with $192 million available is now open. Grants range from $300,000 to $10 million. Applications are being accepted in Grants.gov through May 31, 2023, with an early submission deadline of January 31, 2023 for those that have application requirements completed. Interested jurisdictions should contact their state lead agency for LWCF.

Deadline: June 17, 2023. The Office of Surface Mining awards grants to States and Tribes to support the operation of APPROVED State and Tribal abanodned mine land (AML) reclamation programs. Approved programs use grant funds for mine site reclamation projects on eligible lands, which are lands and waters mined or affected by coal mining processess that occurred prior to August 7, 1977 as well as certain post-1977 and noncoal mining activity.
