Deadline Passed 09/04/2018. Deadline Unknown for 2019.  The National Land Imaging (NLI) Program of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Land Resources (LR) mission area is soliciting applications from qualified Educational Institutions, State and Local Governments, and Non-profit Organizations (NPOs) to develop a U.S. national consortium to expand the science of remote sensing through education, outreach and research / applications development for environmental monitoring to include the effects of land use and land cover change on water quality, quantity and utility; societal adaptation and phenology; public health-related issues to include identification of potential indicators relating to vector-borne diseases and harmful algal blooms; natural resource management, agricultural applications, disaster risk reduction, and other land surface and surface water monitoring applications.

This grant opportunity is a part of VertueLab’s Frontline Impact Program, which seeks to improve access to climate solutions for frontline communities and ensure that these communities experience the long-term economic benefits of climate-related business ownership. Funding will be available only to projects within the State of Oregon, with awards of $25,000 and staff support from the Pacific Northwest’s leading climate tech accelerator. Most recent deadline: May 25, 2022. Solar Energy grants provide competitive funding to install solar at public buildings and facilities, such as schools, hospitals, civic buildings and wastewater treatment plants, maximum award $250,000 per applicant. Projects must provide 50% of the total project cost, or 33% if developed by federally recognized Tribal Governments or located in highly impacted communities, lower income communities, rural communities. SeaDoc Society 2024 Call for Grant Proposals. Most Recent Deadline: May 15, 2024. Open Call for Tribal and First Nations Grants (SeaDoc Society) The SeaDoc Society anticipates funding $100,000 for Tribal and First Nations projects. This application is only for Tribal- and First Nation- and Indigenous-led projects. Funding for individual projects will be limited to $50,000. The SeaDoc Society is pleased to launch our annual competitive grants program with the goal of supporting science where more information is needed and expected to directly improve the health of the Salish Sea. Thanks to private donors, we plan to fund a minimum of $250,000 in projects for 2024 with funding for individual projects limited to $50,000. We anticipate awarding two Tribal, First Nations, or indigenous-led projects and three or more through our Open Call for proposals.

Our goal is to support science that results in positive conservation outcomes for pressing environmental issues facing the Salish Sea. Analysis of past SeaDoc-funded work showed that successful projects that (1) defined the conservation need a priori, (2) collaborated with personnel from government agencies, and (3) where researchers built and maintained relationships with natural resource managers and policy makers before, during and after the research. Accordingly, we plan to fund projects where more science will benefit conservation and where investigators can demonstrate plans for including these three components.

Tribal Climate Resilience Program Grants in Washington. Deadline to Apply: June 7, 2024. The Washington State Department of Commerce has consulted with tribes within Washington state to co-design a strategy for the distribution of $50 million of Climate Commitment Act (CCA) dollars that the Washington Legislature appropriated for tribal climate resilience in the 2023-2025 biennium. https://www.commerce.wa.gov/program-index/tribal-climate-resilience-program-grants/

The Family Forest Fish Passage Program (FFFPP) assists private forestland owners in removing culverts and other stream crossing structures that keep trout, salmon, and other fish from reaching upstream habitat. Road culverts and other structures that are aging, too small, or improperly installed can block fish from reaching their spawning grounds, and young rearing salmon from reaching the ocean. The program funds the replacement of eligible barriers with new structures. Since 2003, some 376 landowners have taken advantage of the program to remove 433 barriers and open more than 1149 miles of stream habitat.

The Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account invests revenue raised from Washington’s shorelines into grants that may be used to buy, improve, or protect aquatic lands for public purposes. This program is administered by the WA Recreation & Conservation Office.  Grants may be used for the acquisition, improvement, or protection of aquatic lands for public purposes. They also may be used to provide or improve public access to the waterfront.

Deadline passed. Most recent deadline: 05/20/2021.The Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program announces the Call for Pre- proposals for Research & Education grants for 2022. With a Research and Education grant, a researcher and at least three (3) Producers work together to develop a proposal to conduct both research and education on a sustainable agriculture topic. Outreach activities may include on-farm/ranch demonstrations, farmer-to-farmer educational activities, and other approaches to assist producer adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. The goal of this program is to achieve results that can be communicated to producers and professionals; sustain and improve the environmental quality and natural resource base on which agriculture depends; improve the profitability of farmers/ranchers and associated agricultural businesses; and enhance the quality of life for farmers/ranchers in their local communities.
