The Tribal Climate Change Guide is part of the Pacific Northwest Tribal Climate Change Project (TCCP). The TCCP is part of the L.I.G.H.T. Foundation (LF), is an independent, Indigenous-led, conservation 501(c)(3) nonprofit established on the Colville Indian Reservation in the traditional territory of the Nespelem Tribe in present-day north central Washington State. Native and environmental groups alike have been protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, a 1,168-mile conduit that would carry fracked oil from North Dakota all the way to Illinois, for two years. They argue that the Missouri River, which the pipeline would cross under, is too precious a water source to risk contamination from an oil spill or leak.
