The Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP) is a $3 billion program, from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Consolidated Appropriations Act, to support Tribal governments bringing high-speed Internet to Tribal lands, including telehealth, distance learning, affordability, and digital inclusion initiatives. The program seeks to improve quality of life, spur economic development, and create opportunities for remote employment, online entrepreneurship, remote learning, and telehealth by expanding broadband access and by providing digital training and inclusion programs to Native American communities. This second round of funding from the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program will make approximately $980 million available on Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian lands for deployment of Internet infrastructure, affordability programs, telehealth and distance learning initiatives.

Most recent Deadline: February 20, 2024. Marine Energy University Foundational R&D. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) and Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO) has released a $14.5 million funding opportunity for pioneering research in marine and ocean renewable energy at U.S. colleges and universities. The funding opportunity will fund projects across four topic areas, which includes up to $1.5 million for projects that advance potential synergies between offshore wind and/or marine energy and aquaculture development (topic area descriptions from the solicitation are copied below). National Sea Grant Law Center Coastal Resilience RFP. Letters of Intent due: March 8, 2024. The National Sea Grant Law Center is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications from eligible applicants to conduct research on the effectiveness of laws and policies related to a wide range of coastal resilience issues including sea level rise, flooding, amplified storm surge, increased frequency and intensity of storms, land use, or other environmental factors, and whether those policies are achieving desired policy changes. The 2024 Coastal Resilience Program grants have a recommended funding level of $75,000, and the Law Center anticipates selecting up to two projects for funding. Matching funds will not be required. 2024-25 CRESCENT Seed Grant Program. Most recent deadline: January 15, 2025. The 2024-25 CRESCENT Seed Grant Program and request proposals for funding is open. Any researchers in the US that are part of an institution or organization that is eligible for regular National Science Foundation funding are invited to apply. The CRESCENT Seed Grant Program has the dual goals of broadening community participation and increasing the breadth of scientific investigations related to the center’s scientific goals. Deadline passed. Most recent deadline: February 5, 2024. California Strategic Growth Council has released the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) and Application for SGC’s newest grant program, the Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program. The pilot program provides funding and technical assistance to California Native American tribes to build staff capacity to advance tribes’ climate-related work. Eligible applicants include California Native American tribes listed on the Native American Heritage Commission (NAHC) Contact List, including federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribes. A non-federally recognized tribe is eligible to apply if they are registered as a nonprofit, a for-profit corporation, or a limited liability company. Most Recent Deadline: June 17, 2024. Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) Lab has recently announced a new request for proposals. The 2024 ESIP Lab RFP aims at supporting data management, data analysis or visualization, or data-informed storytelling related to climate resilience. Over the past seven years, ESIP has granted over $300k in small grant funding, resulting in over $2.5 million in follow-on funding, numerous collaborations, open-source software and data products, and peer-reviewed publications. Applications Due: September 5, 2024. Hazardous Fuels Transportation Assistance grants support projects that remove hazardous fuels from national forests and grasslands to a location where the materials may be used for various wood products and services. This program contributes to the Wildfire Crisis Strategy implementation by removing hazardous fuels from forests and supports local forest product facilities and rural economies. The forest products industry and infrastructure are key are partners to maintain forest health and resilience while reducing wildfire risk. Successful forest restoration and implementation of the 10-year Wildfire Risk Reduction Strategy are dependent on a robust forest products industry. The Forest Service is partnering with industry to discover creative solutions and explore new markets. Under this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the DOE Office of Indian Energy is soliciting applications from Indian Tribes, which include Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations to:

(1) Conduct clean energy planning (Topic Area 1);

(2) Comprehensively assess the feasibility and viability of deploying clean energy technology (Topic Area 2); or,

Philanthropy Northwest & the EPA Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program. 2nd round deadline: February 28, 2025. The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program aims to make it easier for community-based organizations to access federal environmental justice funding. The Pacific Northwest Grant ($40 million) is an opportunity for nonprofit organizations, Native American organizations & Tribal governments, local governments, and institutions of higher education. This grant opportunity is to distribute federal resources to chronically underinvested communities to ensure all people are protected from disproportionate and adverse environmental and health effects. Columbia River Restoration Fundz. Applications Due: December 31, 2024. Amelia Marchand with the L.I.G.H.T. Foundation shared information about the Columbia River Restoration Fund, a program within Seeding Justice, which is a non-competitive funding for Tribal Nations of the Columbia River Basin. https://www.seedingjustice.org/columbia-river-restoration-fund/. The Center for Collaborative Heat Monitoring provides communities with technical and stipend support for the co-development of a community-based heat data collection campaign. We expect to support 10 communities per year for the next three years, beginning in 2025.

Landslide Grants 2025. Most Recent Grant Application Deadline: January 15, 2025. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is soliciting project proposals for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 competitive grants to support landslide risk reduction efforts including communication, planning, coordination, mapping, assessments, and data collection. Interested organizations can apply online at grants.gov under Funding Opportunity Number G25AS00032. The USGS Landslide Hazards Program encourages submissions that will advance landslide hazard mapping and assessments, improve landslide hazard planning and coordination, or improve dissemination and effectiveness of landslide hazard information in mitigating losses. Most recent deadline: January 15, 2025. The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Ecology funds to develop a grant program and facilitate subawards of these funds toward improving the climate resiliency of riparian systems in Puget Sound. Ecology is working in partnership with riparian restoration and protection experts to start a new Climate Resilient Riparian Systems Lead grant program. The program is a coalition between Ecology, the Washington State Conservation Commission, and Bonneville Environmental Foundation. The goal of the program is to promote programs that catalyze sustainable, effective, reach-scale riparian restoration and permanent protection in Puget Sound. The Climate Resilient Riparian Systems Lead program focuses on protecting and restoring riparian areas that have been damaged or are struggling to support the plants, animals, and waters of Puget Sound. It also aims to maintain and learn from pristine riparian systems. 2025 Competitive State Wildlife Grant- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Applications Due: February 25, 2025. The Competitive State Wildlife Grant (C-SWG) Program provides Federal cost sharing awards to help the State, Territory, and District of Columbia fish and wildlife agencies and their associations design and implement proactive conservation programs benefiting wildlife and their habitats. Eligible activities include conservation planning and implementation. 2025 Coastal Resilience Program. Letters of Intent Due: March 5, 2025, by 5 p.m. CST. The National Sea Grant Law Center’s funding opportunities seek to promote the growth and development of Sea Grant legal programming and build the capacity of individual Sea Grant programs to address legal issues in their states.* Eligible applicants, including Sea Grant Programs, universities, government agencies, and non-profits, are invited to apply for funding to research the effectiveness of laws and policies related to coastal resilience. Green Horizons - Accelerating support for Tribal agricultural producers in implementing sustainable farm and ranch practices. Applications Due: June 15, 2025. This initiative provides essential capital and capacity-building support to drive environmental sustainability in Native agricultural and food systems. Together, we’re accelerating existing efforts that provide support for Tribal agricultural producers implementing sustainable practices on farms and ranches. Green Horizons is an opportunity targeted for state and federally recognized Tribal governments. To determine eligibility, we reference the Federal Register’s list of federally recognized Tribes and each state’s list of state recognized Tribes. The lead applicant must be a Tribal government. To be considered the lead applicant, an entity must serve as the project lead/key personnel for the project, have oversight of the budget, and be the primary contact with SEF throughout the duration of the grant.
