The Tribal Climate Change Funding Guide is intended to provide up-to-date information on grants, programs and plans that may assist tribes in addressing climate change through a broad range of sectors. We will update this guide regularly, so please check back often. Community Self Determination Grant NDN Collective

Community Self-Determination Grants are intended to support community-based and community- driven sustainable solutions in all three of NDN Collective’s core strategies to Defend, Develop and Decolonize. Grants are intended to  support and invest in the long-term visions, sustainability, and power building of Indigenous Nations, communities and Indigenous-led organizations, fortifying the self-determination of Indigenous Peoples to create a just, equitable, and sustainable world for all people and the planet. Pollution Prevention Grant: Environmental Justice in Communities EPA

Assistance to High Energy Cost Communities Department of Agriculture, Utilities Program

Deadline Passes December 11, 2017. Deadline for 2018 unknown. The Rural Utilities Service (RUS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), announces the availability of up to $10 million in competitive grants to assist communities with extremely high energy costs. The grant funds may be used to acquire, construct, or improve energy generation, transmission, or distribution facilities serving communities where the average annual residential expenditure for home energy exceeds 275% of the national average. Eligible projects also include on-grid and off-grid renewable energy projects and the implementation of energy efficiency and energy conservation projects for eligible communities. Projects cannot be for the primary benefit of a single household or business. Grant funds may not be used for the preparation of the grant application, payment of utility bills, fuel purchases, routine maintenance or other routine operating costs, or for the purchase of any equipment, structures, or real estate not directly associated with the provision of community energy services. North American Wetlands Conservation Act 2020-2021 U.S. Standard Grants FWS

Tribal Practices for Wellness In Indian Country Centers for Disease Control- NCCDPHP

Deadline Passed as of 2/20/2018. Deadline for 2019 Unknown. This 3-year Notice of Funding Opportunity supports tribal practices identified by tribal health leaders that build resiliency and connections to community, family, and culture, which over time, can reduce risk factors for chronic disease among American Indians and Alaska Natives. Recipients will include up to 14 American Indian Tribes, Alaska Native villages, or American Indian or Alaska Native tribally designated organizations. No more than two awards to tribes and tribal organizations will be made within a single Indian Health Service Area. Up to 14 Urban Indian Organizations will also be funded to address the same strategies for that portion of their patient populations that is American Indian and Alaska Native. Recipients will address these strategies: Connect cultural teachings to health and wellness, Seasonal cultural practices that support health and wellness, Social and cultural activities that promote community wellness,Collaborations that strengthen well-being, Intergenerational learning that supports well-being and resilience, Promote traditional healthy foods, Promote traditional and contemporary physical activities. California Resilience Challenge 2020 Grant Program Bay Area Council Foundation

The California Resilience Challenge is a $2 million statewide competition to support innovative projects that address climate change-related threats and help safeguard the state against wildfire, drought, flood and extreme heat events. Recipients will receive grant awards of up to $200,000 for climate adaptation planning projects. The California Resilience Challenge will provide resources to local communities throughout the state, including cities, counties, California Native American tribes, special districts, and more, that are affected by climate change-related natural disasters.

National Native Health Research Training Initiative IHS

This initiative will help build capacity and disseminate new and best practices for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) health research and promote Tribally-driven research activity through a variety of educational and training opportunities. Focus will be on the promotion of health research and related opportunities for AI/AN students, highlighting promising practices and practice-based approaches to improving the health of AI/AN people,and culture-based approaches to reducing health disparities between AI/AN people and the U.S. population. Other areas will focus on resilience and protective factors and their role in AI/AN health outcomes, innovative and culturally-based approaches to improving the health of AI/AN youth, and dissemination of study findings in AI/AN health science research to investigators and providers working in or with Tribal communities as well as Tribal leaders and health officials. Activities will include the planning, coordination, and hosting of research meetings and conferences, webinars, hosting of a website/webpage for dissemination of AI/AN health science research information, and other activities to be determined.

ANA Funding Opportunity Environmental Regulatory Enhancement Administration for Native Americans (ANA)

Regional Vulnerability Assessments for Ocean Acidification NOAA

DOE Solar Market Pathways Grant DOE

This funding opportunity seeks to support regional, state, tribal, and locally-driven efforts to develop multi-year solar deployment plans that will help provide business certainty and establish a clear path for the next five to ten years of solar deployment. Specifically, this FOA is intended to enable replicable multi-year strategies that spur significant solar deployment, drive down solar soft costs, support local economic development efforts, and address the potential challenges arising from increased solar penetration on the electrical grid. Awardees are expected to convene stakeholder processes to develop their plan, and subgroups could address specific topics such as the net benefits and costs of solar electricity (to and from the grid), and/or develop solar deployment programs including, but not limited to, commercial property assessed clean energy financing, shared solar, and/or incorporating solar within their emergency response plans. ANA Funding Opportunity Social and Economic Development Administration for Native Americans

Southeast Resilient Landscapes Fund Doris Duke Charitable Foundation

2017 deadline: 11/06/2017. Deadline for 2018 Unknown. Capitalized with a grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Southeast Resilient Landscapes Fund (Fund) provides capital grants and loans to land protection projects within three selected regions of the southeast. Projects must lie in one of OSI’s resilience focus areas, demonstrate the use of Resilient Landscape concepts and meet the other grant criteria detailed below. OSI awards grants to qualified non-profit organizations through a competitive process with the assistance of an advisory board comprised of experts with knowledge of natural resources, conservation policy and land conservation funding.

Recovery Challenge DOI, FWS

Deadline Unknown for 2020. The Recovery challenge funding opportunity is to enhance and increase partnerships with agencies and organizations implementing highest priority recovery actions for federally listed endangered and threatened species, and in particular for genetically-sound breeding, rearing and reintroduction programs. Section 2(a)(5) of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, 16 U.S.C. 1535, as amended, authorizes the use of Federal financial assistance to encourage the States and other interested parties to develop and maintain conservation programs to safeguard the Nation's heritage in fish, wildlife and plants for the benefit of all citizens. In addition, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019 (H.J. Res. 31, 116th Cong. Div. E, Title I (2019)) authorized specific funding for the Recovery Challenge funding opportunity.
